Asus Plans to Reorganize into Three Business Units
March 20, 2009
It is reported that Taiwan's Asus plans to further streamline its organization, slimming its business units down to three, according to a China Times report on March 12. This is Asus second attempt at corporate reorganization so far this year. Previously in January, Asus said it planned to halve its twelve business units to six. Although no definite plans have been announced yet, Asus is expected to further reduce its operating units to three: computing system business, component business, and handheld device business, according to the March 12 report. The new computing system business unit, which is estimated to account for around 60% of Asus's overall revenues, is expected to cover Asus's Eee PC line and notebook PCs. Motherboards and graphic cards are expected to constitute the core products of the new component business unit, which will also take display and ODD (Optical Disk Drives) products under its wings. The handheld device business unit, meanwhile, is expected to incorporate the newly formed Garmin-Asus Smartphone line. It is envisaged that each business unit will have its independent sales and marketing team as well.
